Arab Foreign Ministers Urge Political Action to End Israeli Aggression

CAIRO: The Arab foreign ministers have stressed the need for urgent political steps at the Arab and global levels to end the dangerous Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and give protection to the Palestinian people, Saudi Gazette reported on Wednesday.

In a statement issued at the end of the extraordinary ministerial session of the Arab League in Cairo the ministers underscored the importance of Israel’s fulfillment of the international law compulsions as an occupying power for the Palestine.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan led the Saudi delegation at the moot which was held at the request of Palestine.

Arab League calls for resuming the peace process

The final statement issued by the Arab League after the meeting called for resuming the peace process and starting serious talks between the Palestine Liberation Organization, the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and Israel.

The meeting stressed the need for a political action at the Arab and global levels to end the dangerous Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and held its perpetrators accountable, provide protection to the Palestinian people, and achieve peace and security.

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit addressing the meeting, underscored the need to show restraint and look at the consequences, saying the military operation by Israeli occupation forces will bring more violence and bloodshed.

He rejected and condemned the collective punishments by Israel against the residents of Gaza.

He said the league stands in solidarity with the Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip who are subjected to a massacre which needs to be stopped immediately.

Aboul Gheit also rejected any violence against civilians adding killing civilians and terrorizing them as a means to achieve political goal is unacceptable.

He called for immediate ceasefire and end to the dangerous escalation that poses great threat to the stability of the entire region.

The Arab League chief said that the current escalation has roots in denial of Palestinian rights, and considering the Palestinians in the West Bank or Gaza as a security threat.

Aboul Gheit added that the Arab countries want to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict according to the Arab Peace Initiative that is based on the two-state formula.
