ISLAMABAD: About 2,000 Chevening alumni from across Pakistan gathered at an event in Islamabad to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the UK’s flagship higher education scholarship.
At a special reception hosted by UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott, scholars and fellows who have benefitted from the scheme paid tribute to the ‘life-changing’ programme.
Speaking on the occasion, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said that it has been a privilege to host so many brilliant minds working in various sectors, united by their common Chevening story. Days like today showcase the true value of the Chevening scholarship programme. The journey does not stop at the completion of studies.
She said that over 40 years, the UK has developed a global network of more than 50,000 alumni, many of whom play important leadership roles in their countries.
Chevening’s Alumni
Addressing at the event, Chief Data and Strategy Officer Jazz Ali Naseer said that it has been twenty-five years since his Chevening year, but it remains a pivotal moment for him. Naseer said that it showed him various ways to aid Pakistan’s growth. Even outside the public sector, he believed his efforts still make a significant impact.
Health management expert Dr Huma Qureshi said that Chevening helped her combine management and clinical expertise, boosting performance in the health field. She also expressed her gratitude for the Chevening.
Applications for Chevening scholarships to study in the United Kingdom are open from 12 September to 7 November 2023. Applications can be made on the Chevening website www.chevening.org.
The scholarships are fully funded, including fees, visas, flights, accommodation, and some spending money.
