BEIJING: China has retaliated against the United States, denouncing it as an “empire of lies” following the release of a report by the US State Department’s Global Engagement Center. The report, issued on Thursday, accused China of financing global propaganda, disinformation, and censorship, alongside promoting positive news about the country and its Communist leadership.

Responding, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson labeled the report “disinformation,” asserting it distorted facts and truth. “It is the US that invented the weaponizing of the international information space,” stated the spokesperson, as published by the official Xinhua news agency. The spokesperson pointed to the US as a “consistent empire of lies,” challenging the credibility of the accusations.

US State Department’s Report About China

The State Department’s report alleged China’s suppression of information contrary to its stance on contentious topics, particularly its human rights record. The spokesperson termed the report as an “enormous lie,” rejecting accusations about detention facilities.

In a broader context, the spokesperson asserted that global awareness was increasing about what they described as the US’s attempt to perpetuate its supremacy through fabrications.
