Saudi Arabia Aims to Become Major Player in EV Industry

RIYADH: Saudi Arabian Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Al-Khorayef has that the Kingdom aims to become a major player in producing electric vehicles (EVs) and related products, including electric batteries, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) Reported on Friday.

He expressed the views while inaugurating Lucid Motor’s first EV manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) in Rabigh governorate.

Al-Khorayef said the inauguration of the plant confirms the implementation of the National Industrial Strategy (NIS) by Saudi Arabia and its seriousness in setting up a flexible, competitive, and sustainable industrial economy led by the private sector.

EV plant to strengthen industry across the Kingdom

The minister said the EV industry is among the 12 strategic industrial sectors covered by the NIS to strengthen the growth of the industry across the Kingdom.

He said that Saudi Arabia is not just building a manufacturing facility but striving to become a global player in the industry of EV and related products.

The minister added that Lucid Motor’s EV manufacturing plant confirms the Kingdom’s commitment to investment in clean energy and the green economy.

Lucid Group’s choice of Saudi Arabia as its head office in the Middle East shows the importance of the Kingdom’s strategic and unique geographical location, Al-Khorayef said.

He added that the plant will contribute to achieving Lucid Group’s goals by directing 85% of its production to global export markets.
