SYDNEY: The Ambassador of China to Australia has strongly criticized the country’s politicians for visiting Taiwan, which China says is an integral part, Western media reported on Thursday.

Ambassador Xiao Qian was expressing his views after an Australian parliamentary delegation toured Taiwan this week.

Xiao said that the visits of Australian parliamentarians and former prime ministers to Taiwan is a matter of grave concern.

He strongly believed that political forces in Taiwan are using these visits for their political gains adding that such visits should not happen again.

The ambassador asked the Australian politicians to stick to the ‘one-China policy’ in words and refrain from engaging with Taiwan.

Taiwan, a part of People’s Republic of China.

Beijing under “one-China policy” considers Taiwan is part of the People’s Republic of China.

Former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is also expected to speak at the Yushan Forum in Taipei from October 11 to 12 which aims to boost Taiwan’s co-operation with neighboring countries.

Australia’s ties with China plummeted under Prime Minister Morrison’s four-year rule, who was defeated by the Labour Party in elections last year.

The new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to become the first Australian leader to visit Beijing in seven years later this year.
