3 Yemeni Soldiers Killed in Abyan, Officials Vow to Defeat Al-Qaeda

AL-MUKALLA, YEMEN: Local officials said on Thursday that at least three Yemeni soldiers were killed and three wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in the southern province of Abyan, Yemen.

Commander of a military unit Abdul Raham Muthana and two of his companions were killed in the explosion. Militant group Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack, Arab news reported.

Officials Vow to Defeat Terrorists

Mohammed Al-Naqeeb, a spokesperson for the pro-independence Southern Transitional Council in Abyan said that the deaths of the three forces increased the number of fatalities among its troops to 68 and injuries to at least 170 since the start of a military offensive in August to eliminate Al-Qaeda from Abyan.

Al-Naqeeb said that military actions would continue until Al-Qaeda terrorists had been entirely eliminated from the region.
