CAIRO: The third batch of 16 Palestinian students from Gaza departed Cairo for Islamabad on Wednesday to pursue medical studies in Pakistan, as part of a humanitarian initiative launched by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
This effort, coordinated by Global Relief Trust, Doctors of Rahman, and Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, aims to support Palestinian students whose education has been disrupted by the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Pakistan’s embassy in Cairo said.
The first group of students arrived in Lahore earlier this week, with a total of around 190 Palestinian students expected to come to Pakistan to complete their medical education. These students will be enrolled in various medical institutes across the country.
In July, the Government of Pakistan announced that it would allow medical students from Gaza to continue their education in Pakistan on humanitarian grounds.

The initiative is focused on enabling students to finish their final years of medical training in specialized fields such as cardiology, orthopedics, oncology, pediatrics, and surgery, addressing urgent needs within Gaza’s healthcare system.
Pakistan’s efforts have been praised for providing Palestinian students an opportunity to gain critical medical expertise, which will be invaluable in improving healthcare services in Gaza upon their return.
