RIYADH: Saudi Arabia will participate in the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026), scheduled to be held in Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
The Saudi contingent will include 144 athletes representing 19 national teams, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee will organise a training camp for the Saudi teams in Fuji, Japan, from August 29 to October 3 as part of preparations for the competition.
On Saturday, the Saudi senior national basketball team delegation has arrived in Doha to begin its preparatory camp and participate in the international friendly tournament “3 Nations Friendly Games,” featuring Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The competition will be staged from August 20 to 22. The organisation of this tournament comes as part of the three teams’ preparations for participation in the Asian Games 2026 in Japan.
Earlier last week, the Saudi Standards Team won three international awards at the 21st International Standards Olympiad in Korea.
The event, which began on Wednesday and concluded on Friday, was an annual global competition that challenges middle and high school students to solve real-world problems using technical standards, creativity and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills.
This year, 105 male and female students took part, representing 11 countries. The Saudi team won the platinum award, which is the Olympiad’s highest honour and is presented to only one team in the competition. It is the first time the Kingdom has won the top prize. The team also received silver and bronze awards.
The students were assisted in their preparations for the competition by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), the Ministry of Education, and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation.
