ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has forecasted that the crescent moon of Zilhaj 1446 will likely be visible on May 28 in the country, setting the stage for Eidul Adha to be celebrated across Pakistan on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

According to SUPARCO’s precise astronomical models, the moon will be “born” or enter its new phase at 8:02 AM on May 27.

However, that evening’s twilight offers little hope for a sighting: the young moon will be just 11 hours and 34 minutes old and will slip below the horizon only 37 minutes after sunset — not enough time, under typical conditions, for it to be seen by the naked eye.

Based on this projected lunar timeline, Eidul Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice — one of the holiest celebrations in Islam — is forecast to fall on June 7 in Pakistan.

Yet, as is tradition, the final confirmation will come from the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, whose responsibility it is to officially announce the sighting based on local observations.

Meanwhile, the Emirates Astronomy Society in the UAE offers a slightly different trajectory. There, astronomers predict the moon’s appearance on the evening of May 27, meaning May 28 would mark the first day of Zilhaj — and Eidul Adha would fall a day earlier, on Friday, June 6.
