ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his special message on Sunday, said that Youm-e-Takbeer was not just a day but a story of the nation’s difficult and remarkable journey towards establishing credible minimum deterrence.
Taking to Twitter, the prime minister said that on 28 May 1998, Pakistan set a redline for its defence and laid down the rules of the game for peace and stability in the region.
“On the Silver Jubilee of Youm-e-Takbeer, I pay rich tributes to the political & military leadership, scientists, engineers, and all those who remained associated with our nuclear programme,” he said in a tweet as Pakistan celebrates the 25th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer with zeal and fervor on Sunday.
The premier further said that their hard work, determination, and commitment made it possible for the nation to guard its independence from any physical threat.
He said that Youm-e-Takbeer represented how the consensus among all elements of national power achieved what once looked like a very difficult task.

The PM said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed was a visionary leader who started the nuclear program; adding in a show of brave leadership, Nawaz Sharif firmly rejected the policy of stick and carrot and made sure that Pakistan became nuclear.
The prime minister said that Pakistan’s armed forces remained a guardian and protector of the program in the face of the malign intentions of its enemies.
