SANAA: Yemen’s Houthis have declared their intention to continue targeting British ships in the Gulf of Aden, following the sinking of the UK-owned vessel Rubymar.

The announcement comes in the wake of confirmation by the US military that the Rubymar was struck and sunk by an anti-ship ballistic missile fired by Yemeni Houthis on February 18.

Hussein al-Ezzi, the deputy foreign minister in the Houthi-led government, issued a statement asserting Yemen’s commitment to further attacks on British vessels. Al-Ezzi warned that any consequences or damages resulting from these actions would be attributed to Britain.

Houthis Allege UK, US of Sponsoring Crimes in Gaza

“It is a rogue state that attacks Yemen and partners with America in sponsoring ongoing crimes against civilians in Gaza,” al-Ezzi proclaimed in a post on X.

The Rubymar incident marks another escalation in the conflict between Yemen’s Houthis and foreign maritime interests operating in the region. The sinking of the UK-owned vessel has heightened tensions in the strategically significant Gulf of Aden, a vital maritime corridor connecting the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.
