SANA, Yemen: Yemen’s Houthis announced on Tuesday that they targeted the Maersk Sentosa ship in the Arabian Sea with several ballistic and wing missiles.
Yahya Sarea, the Houthis’ spokesperson, stated in a televised speech that the attack involved naval and missile forces in a joint operation against the American-flagged ship.
The biggest shipping company in the world, Maersk, verified that the Maersk Sentosa had reported being attacked by a flying object in the northern Gulf of Aden. Thankfully, neither the ship nor the cargo were damaged, nor were any of the crew members hurt.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the captain of an unnamed merchant ship experienced an explosion close to the vessel, approximately 180 nautical miles east of Yemen’s Nishtun. UKMTO confirmed the vessel and its crew are safe.
Additionally, Sarea mentioned that the Houthis targeted the Marathopolis ship in the Arabian Sea and the MSC Patnaree ship in the Gulf of Aden using several drones. Houthi militants have been launching drone and missile attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, Bab Al-Mandab Strait, and Gulf of Aden since November, claiming these actions are in solidarity with Palestinians amid the war in Gaza.
