SANAA: Yemen’s Houthi group on Monday claimed responsibility for attacks against Israel, where the Israeli military said it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen.
The Houthis fired at “two military targets of the Israeli enemy” in the Tel Aviv area with two missiles, its military spokesman Yahya Saree said. The spokesman said that drones were also launched at several Israeli targets.
The missile, fired from Yemen, set off air raid sirens across central Israel, including in Tel Aviv, prompting residents to seek shelter.
Israel’s military said it intercepted one surface-to-surface missile, with its air defence systems preventing any significant damage.
The missile was fired during ongoing hostilities in the region, with Israel marking the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks.
“Following the sirens that sounded in a number of areas in central Israel, the surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen was successfully intercepted by the Israeli Air Force,” the military said in a statement.
Yemen’s Houthi movement has frequently launched missiles at Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
