JEDDAH: The Jeddah Economic Company Tower in Saudi Arabia is set to become the tallest skyscraper in the world.

Formerly known as the Kingdom Tower, the architectural marvel is soaring to a height of over 0.62 miles. The building would redefine the skyline of Jeddah and the world.

The project, led by Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal, has become a symbol of the Saudi nation’s ambition and commitment to redefining the limits of modern architecture. This monumental endeavour goes beyond record-breaking as it is a step to shape the future of the Kingdom.

Renowned architects Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill have designed the project. Adrian Smith has previously designed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is currently the world’s tallest building at 2,716 feet.

The architects have integrated state-of-the-art technology and sustainable design principles, making the skyscraper an engineering masterpiece.

The skyscraper’s sleek, aerodynamic design could withstand the harsh desert winds. The work on the project halted for several years due to financial and logistical issues, however, the construction is now in full swing.

Currently, construction of the Jeddah Tower has reached the 64th floor, with a new floor completed approximately every four days.

The rapid progress is driven by advanced construction techniques and technologies that allow concrete to be pumped to exceptional heights. Currently, the construction team can pump concrete up to 2,624 feet (800 meters) and is working to expand this capacity to reach the tower’s ultimate height of over 3,280 feet (1,000 meters).

The Jeddah Tower, once completed, will stand as the world’s tallest building, surpassing the Burj Khalifa by approximately 172 meters. It is designed to be at least 1,008.2 meters (3,308 feet) tall.

The Jeddah Tower is not merely a skyscraper; it is the centerpiece of a larger urban development designed to establish Jeddah as a global hub for commerce and culture. With 157 floors, the tower will include 59 elevators, a luxury hotel, premium residences, and expansive office spaces. Additionally, it will feature the world’s highest observation deck, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

This project, which is slated to be completed in 2028, is a critical component of Saudi Vision 2030.
