ISLAMABAD: As the world observes Mental Health Day, President Zardari called for a collective effort to enhance support systems and promote well-being, which are essential for both individuals and productivity in the workplace. This year’s theme, “Mental Health at Work,” underlines the significance of fostering healthy work environments that prioritize mental well-being.

The President noted that nearly 60% of the global population is part of the workforce, making it crucial to address mental health challenges in occupational settings. He pointed out that workplace harassment and poor conditions can severely impact workers’ mental health and productivity, urging employers and stakeholders to create supportive environments that enhance well-being and efficiency.

Pakistan is taking significant steps toward improving mental health care, including the launch of the National Mental Health Helpline (1166), which provides vital support by connecting individuals to local treatment facilities and support networks. President Zardari highlighted this initiative as part of the country’s commitment to making mental health services accessible to all citizens.

In a pioneering move, Pakistan has also developed a cost-benefit package for essential health services, including mental health interventions at both primary healthcare and community levels. Furthermore, the establishment of a National Task Force for Mental Health aims to oversee and advocate for better care and human rights for those affected by mental disorders.

Education plays a crucial role in mental health awareness; as such, mental health training has been integrated into the curriculum for Lady Health Workers to enhance the early detection of mental health issues.

On this significant day, President Zardari called on citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles, maintain connections with loved ones, and engage in regular physical activity to manage stress and anxiety. He stressed that through collective efforts, Pakistan can build a healthier and more supportive society.

“As a nation, we are dedicated to improving mental health facilities and ensuring that every individual has access to the care they need,” said President Zardari. “Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future where mental health is prioritized and stigma is eradicated.”
