PARIS: World leaders have paid tribute to US President Joe Biden following he announced he was dropping out of the US presidential elections, even as Republicans called on him to quit from the job before the end of his term.
President Biden announced his decision in a letter released on Sunday, a fabulous move that upsets the 2024 race for the White House. Biden endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s new nominee.
However, world leaders lined up to pay tribute to Biden’s successes as US president. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that he respected Biden’s decision. In a statement via social media, he said that Biden did the decision on what he believed was best for the Americans.
Similarly, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also paid rich tribute to Biden’s legacy. He said in a statement that his friend Joe Biden has achieved a lot for his country, for Europe, for the world. He further said that his decision not to run again deserves a lot of respect.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau thanked President Biden for his years of service. In a statement via social media, Justin Trudeau said that Biden is a great man, and everything he does is guided by his love for his nation.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also reacted over the development and wrote on social media, “The Australia-US Alliance has never been stronger with our shared commitment to democratic values, economic prosperity, international security, and climate action for this and future generations.”
Former president Barack Obama, lauded Biden’s record in office as president. He said that internationally, Biden restored US’s standing in the world, revitalized NATO, and mobilized the world to stand up against Moscow aggression in Kyiv.
Similarly, former president Donald Trump, who is running for the presidency again, wrote on his Truth Social network: “Crooked Biden was not fit to run for President, and is surely not fit to serve.”
