ISLAMABAD: World Heart Day is being observed today with a focus on raising awareness about the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The theme for this year’s observance is “Use Heart for Action,” emphasizing the need for proactive steps to protect heart health at both individual and collective levels.

Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease and stroke, remains the leading cause of death globally, accounting for over 17.5 million lives each year. This staggering statistic highlights the critical importance of awareness campaigns like World Heart Day to promote healthier lifestyles and preventative measures.

The observance encourages individuals to make heart-healthy choices, such as maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, quitting smoking, and managing stress. It also urges governments and healthcare systems to prioritize heart disease prevention and enhance access to treatments. By “using heart for action,” the aim is to reduce the global burden of cardiovascular disease and improve quality of life for millions worldwide.
