SINDH: In northern Sindh, World Health Day was commemorated, aligning with the theme ‘My Health, My Rights’, echoing the global sentiment. The occasion served as a platform to raise awareness among the masses about healthcare issues and to equip paramedics with skills to manage emergencies effectively.
Dr. Najaf Ali Shah, a senior health expert, highlighted the alarming toll of natural disasters and road accidents on human lives in recent years. Thousands perished due to floods, hurricanes, and road accidents claiming over a million lives.
Dr. Shah emphasized the importance of specialized medical procedures to address such emergencies and stressed the necessity of comprehensive training for paramedics in this regard.
Speaking to state media, another renowned health expert, Dr. Abid Ali Shah, acknowledged the government’s efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure despite economic challenges. He underscored the urgency of legislative measures to curb the proliferation of quackery, which contributes significantly to the spread of diseases.
Identifying complex financing mechanisms, expensive technology, and medicines as barriers to effective healthcare delivery, Dr. Abid stressed the necessity for increased government investment in health and education. He noted ongoing preventive programs by the Ministry of Health, emphasizing their role in public awareness and social mobilization.
