World Halal Food Festival Attracts Thousands in London

LONDON: More than 20,000 foodies from different parts of the world attended the annual World Halal Food Festival in London, Arab media reported on Sunday.

The event now in its eighth year, is known to be the biggest and longest-running halal food festival in the world. It was held on September 23-24 at the London Stadium in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Shelina Permalloo, a UK Master Chef winner told the media that she has been at the festival from the beginning and it’s been incredible to watch it grow. Permalloo along with Master Chef runner-up, Omar Foster prepared some of their signature dishes at the event.

Waleed Jahangir, managing director at Algebra Festivals, expressing his views said the festival provided an opportunity for members of all communities to come and experience the food of the world under one roof.

Graham Gilmore, CEO of London Stadium, said he is delighted to welcome back this remarkable food festival in London. He said that London Stadium has been hosting the event for the past three years providing an ideal venue for this event.

He said the event also features music and culture of the Muslim community along with delicious food.

It is pertinent to mention that Islam is the second-largest religion in the UK, and the Muslim population has increased by 1.2 million in 10 years, bringing the total to 3.9 million in 2021.

The halal market is expanding at a remarkable rate in the UK and its overall value is estimated to be between £1 billion and £2 billion, according to the Halal Monitoring Committee.
