ISLAMABAD: The US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, on Monday, highlighted the crucial role women play in promoting peace and stability, saying that their inclusion is necessary not only for economic benefits but also for societal progress.
Speaking at the Breaking Barriers Through Diversity and Inclusivity Conference, he said that empowering women is not just about gender but also a matter of economic necessity and human rights.
He said that societies investing in empowering women experience better health, education, and economic outcomes. When females are given equal opportunities, economies prosper, communities thrive, and nations progress, he added.
The envoy said studies have shown that when women are involved in peace processes, resulting agreements are more sustainable and durable. Their unique experiences and perspectives bring a different dimension to conflict resolution, fostering inclusivity and long-lasting solutions.
Ambassador Expresses Delight
He expressed delight in witnessing representatives from 14 US minority-serving institutions and the All-Pakistan Women Universities Consortium at the event.
The diplomat said diversity is the cornerstone of innovation and progress, and President Joe Biden has highlighted that in the United States, diversity is our strength; the promise of the United States is that it is big enough for everyone to succeed.
He said that Washington is committed to supporting Islamabad in its efforts to advance diversity in all its kinds.
Through partnerships between civil society, our governments, and the private sector, we can create lasting change that benefits us all, he added.
