KYIV: One woman was killed and four others were wounded in Russian assaults on southern and eastern Ukraine, officials said on Wednesday, as Moscow claimed it had downed a barrage of Ukrainian rockets.
The governor of Ukraine’s southern Kherson region, partially occupied by Russia, disclosed that a woman had lost her life in a drone strike targeting the village of Mykhailivka. Although Ukrainian forces had reclaimed significant portions of the Black Sea territory in late 2022, Russian troops continued to shell recaptured towns and villages.
“A 61-year-old resident succumbed to fatal injuries sustained in her residence,” stated the official, Oleksandr Prokudin, via social media.
In a separate incident, the governor of the eastern Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegubov, reported that three men and one woman, all over the age of 50, were injured in strikes involving artillery and rockets on various towns and villages in the region.
The Ukrainian air force revealed that Russia had launched 13 Iranian-designed attack drones towards Ukraine overnight, with 10 being intercepted over the Kharkiv region, the neighboring Sumy region, and near the capital Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Russia announced that its air defense systems had successfully downed 18 rockets near the border city of Belgorod, which had recently experienced an increase in fatal Ukrainian attacks. The governor of Belgorod confirmed that one person had been wounded during the barrage.
