ISLAMABAD: The 2025 edition of the Galiyat Mountain Trail Race in Pakistan witnessed fierce competition, record-breaking performances, and inspiring endurance across the 60km male and female categories on Monday.
In the men’s 60km event, Wiqar Ahmed (bib 464) stunned the field by clinching victory in his debut ultramarathon. He clocked an astonishing 6 hours, 39 minutes, and 58 seconds, smashing the previous course record and edging out the defending champion by mere seconds.
Muzammil Shahzad Awan (458), last year’s winner, fought hard to retain his title, finishing just 45 seconds behind at 6:40:43, in one of the closest finishes in race history.
Rounding out the men’s podium, Muhammad Sadiq (415) and Sajjad Hussain (431) crossed the line together in 7:51:06, sharing third place in a show of camaraderie and perseverance.
Masterclass in mountain running
On the women’s side, reigning champion Christina Wieser (453) delivered a masterclass in mountain running. She defended her crown with a commanding time of 8 hours, 28 minutes, and 14 seconds, reaffirming her dominance on the Galiyat terrain.
Anja Myrtveit (454) claimed second place, completing the demanding course in 9:08:40, just 40 minutes behind Wieser, showcasing remarkable consistency and strength.
Anum Uzair (433) embodied grit and determination, finishing in 12:57:30, a powerful reminder that endurance is as much about resilience as speed.
With breathtaking trails and incredible performances, the Galiyat Mountain Trail Race 2025 celebrated not just winners, but the spirit of trail running — passion, persistence, and pushing past limits.
