NEW YORK: Pakistan and India are all set to lock horns in a group stage match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday (June 9).
While India outclassed Ireland at the same venue in their tournament opener on June 5, Pakistan were stunned by co-hosts United States (USA) in one of the biggest upsets of the T20I World Cup at the Grand Prarie Stadium in Dallas on Thursday via an intense super over.
While a rain threat has been consistently looming over every match in the tournament so far, the big clash on Sunday seems safe from any interruptions. As per AccuWeather, the weather is not anticipated to play any sort of spoilsport in the big clash set to be played from 10:30 pm (EDT).
The current forecast shows there is more than a 40 percent chance of rain in New York. “Partly sunny, a shower or thunderstorm in spots; breezy,” according to Accuweather’s forecast for New York.
As New York prepares to witness one of the biggest rivalries in the cricket world, both India and Pakistan will also have to focus on giving a good push to their individual T20 World Cup campaign with a win.
The Rohit Sharma-led side is entering this match after outclassing Ireland while Babar Azam-led Green Shirts suffered an unpredictable defeat in its opening match against the USA in the super over.
Cricket fans are eagerly waiting for the high-voltage clash despite Pakistan’s unimpressive performance in the opener.
At the cultural crossroads of the world, New Yorkers will experience a thrilling first on Sunday – a World Cup cricket match hosted in a US city between Asian powerhouses: rivals India and Pakistan.
However, roughly 10 miles (16 kilometres) from the pop-up stadium at Eisenhower Park on Long Island, fans interviewed in the bustling Little India neighborhood of Queens said they won’t be able to attend the game in person.
