GENEVA: A World Health Organization (WHO) official has said the world health body has asked Israel that the WHO wants to begin the second phase of the polio vaccination drive in the Gaza Strip from October 14.
According to Reuters news agency, Ayadil Saparbekov, WHO lead for emergencies in the occupied Palestinian territory said that they have asked Israel allow campaign. He said negotiations were ongoing and that a meeting with Israeli authorities about the next phase of the campaign was planned for Sunday.
Meanwhile, the health ministry in Gaza said on Thursday that more than 41,788 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the ongoing Israeli bombardment campaign in the besieged Palestinian territory since October 7.
The death toll includes 99 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours alone, the territory’s health ministry said. The health ministry said 96,794 people have been wounded in the Gaza Strip since October 7.
Israel has continued its offensive on Gaza following an attack by Hamas last October 7, despite a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.
