GENEVA: The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern for the safety of patients and healthcare personnel in Gaza, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.
The development comes amidst the intensification of hostilities and the ongoing evacuation directives affecting the Kamal Adwan, Indonesian and Al-Awda hospitals in northern Gaza.
The WHO stressed the implementation of all feasible steps to safeguard civilians and healthcare, including healthcare professionals, patients, medical facilities, and ambulances.
WHO representative in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Dr. Richard Peppercorn, has said that the Palestinian Ministry of Health sought WHO’s assistance in evacuating severely ill patients from these facilities, and the organisation swiftly devised a strategy to execute these responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said on Friday that at least 42,126 people have been killed in the Israeli bombardment in the besieged Palestinian territory.
The toll includes 61 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the ministry, which said 98,117 people have been injured in the Gaza Strip since the war started between Israel and Hamas on October 7, 2023.
