KHARTUM: The Red Cross and the World Health Organization (WHO) urged Sudan’s warring parties to guarantee humanitarian access for those requiring help as the death toll in the conflict neared 200, on Tuesday

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ head of delegation for Sudan said that the body has thousands of volunteers who are prepared, able and trained to perform humanitarian activities in the country.

He said that, unfortunately, due to the present situation, they are unable to move.

Aiywar urged all parties to allow humanitarian aid corridors to operate.

UN spokeswoman Alessandra Vellucci said the body had around 800 international crew and 3,200 national staff in Sudan.

She said that the organization is, of course, worried about security, and the volunteers cannot operate in a regular way.

Despite international appeals for a halt to the violence in Sudan, fighting entered a 4th day on Tuesday, with the UN counting about 200 dead.

Civilians are staying indoors, but water and electricity have been cut, and food supply shortages exist.

Aiywar said that they get calls from all corners, people who want to have food for their families. The body is reuniting children with their parents, but there are difficulties due to the unstoppable war.

He warned that if the disruption of the health system continued, it would almost go into collapse.

WHO’s warning

WHO spokeswoman Margaret said many of Khartoum’s 9 hospitals that are treating wounded civilians are reporting shortages of vital supplies such as “blood, intravenous fluids, transfusion equipment, medical supplies and other life-saving tools.

The body also condemned attacks on health infrastructure, with Harris noting 3 cases had already been documented.
