White House Eyes on Biden-Xi Meeting in San Francisco in November

WASHINGTO: A senior Biden administration official on Tuesday said that teams for US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping have reached an agreement in principle for a meeting of the two leaders in San Francisco in November this year.

Th official told media that the important details need to be hammered out regarding the meeting.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at her daily press briefing, said the two leaders are aiming to have a constructive discussion on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in San Francisco.

Agreement reached in principle to hold meeting in San Francisco

The official said there was an agreement in principle to hold the meeting in San Francisco in November adding the concerned authorities are still working through important details needed to finalize those plans.

Biden, his national security adviser Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a meeting with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi at the White House and at the State Department on Friday discussed the prospect for a Biden-Xi summit in talks.

The APEC summit is secluded to take place in mid-November.

Earlier Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the path to a meeting between President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden was not smooth and cannot be left to autopilot.

Biden and Xi have not had any direct contact since their meeting in Bali in November 2022.
