WASHINGTON: The White House has cautioned on opinion polls showing Democratic President Joe Biden behind Republican candidate Donald Trump, Western media reported on Tuesday.

The poll conducted by New York Times/Siena showed Biden lagging behind Trump in five of six major states with a year left for the next presidential elections.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told media that there’s going to be a lot of polls before the election. She recalled an earlier poll that showed Republican Mitt Romney leading Democratic then-President Barack Obama ahead of the 2012 election, which Obama won with a vast majority.

She also referred how Republicans were hoping to win big in 2022 midterm congressional elections but Democrats holding on to power in the Senate and Republicans gaining only a small majority in the House of Representatives.

Poll outcome to determine who wins the next presidential election

According to the Times poll Biden is behind Trump in Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan and Pennsylvania and Biden is ahead of Trump in Wisconsin. The outcome in all six states will be useful to determine who wins the next presidential election.

Earlier US President Joe Biden during a personal attack on Donald Trump blamed his likely 2024 rival for plotting to undermine the American constitution if he wins the presidential election next year.

Meanwhile an advocacy group lawyer at the opening of a trial argued that former US president Donald Trump should be disqualified from next year’s presidential election as he provoked a violent mob in Washington on January 6 in 2021.

Trump faces several legal cases including a New York state civil fraud lawsuit against his family company as he campaigns for the presidency.
