ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has conducted another mock test of the Election Management System (EMS) developed for tabulation and compilation of election results, in which all required steps and objectives were completed successfully.

More than 128 million voters including over 50.9 million women voters will exercise their right to vote for 266 general seats of the National Assembly of Pakistan.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, returning officers from 859 constituencies across the South Asian country participated in the pilot exercise of EMS. It added that the system was tested in all aspects in both offline and online modes and was found satisfactory in all respects.

The main purpose of the Election Management System (EMS) is tabulation and compilation of election results and it will be used on Election Day. The EMS works with equal speed and efficiency in both online and offline modes, the ECP said.

According to the ECP, it has completed the training of more than 1.4 million polling staff for the upcoming general elections in Pakistan.  It added that the polling staff trained during this period includes Returning and District Returning Officers, Presiding and Assistant Presiding Officers and Regional Monitoring Coordinators.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Caretaker Minister for Information Murtaza Solangi said that all is set to hold free, fair and transparent polls on Thursday. He added that the caretaker government has been consistent from the day one that polls would be held on the date given by the ECP. He said that more than ample resources have been provided to ensure free and fair election on February 8.

The Minister said Pakistan has become the 5th largest democracy in the world as we enter electoral process.
