Western Azerbaijan Community Welcomes Inclusion of Safe Return in Azerbaijan-Armenia Meeting

BAKU: The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a statement expressing optimism following the Brussels meeting between President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the Council of the EU Charles Michel, and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. The community highlighted the discussion on the safe and dignified return of Western Azerbaijanis to their homes during the trilateral meeting held on July 15, 2023.

According to the statement, the inclusion of the issue of Western Azerbaijanis’ return to their homes on the negotiation agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia is seen as a historic step towards a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law. This development has inspired the Western Azerbaijan Community and all forcibly expelled Azerbaijanis from Armenia to take action to realize their right to return.

Peace Efforts Between Azerbaijan and Armenia

The community emphasizes that the safe and dignified return of Azerbaijanis to their homes is not only a triumph of human rights and justice but also a crucial requirement for establishing lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. They welcome the inclusion of this issue within the framework of the Brussels peace process, considering it a significant step towards normalizing interstate relations.

Furthermore, the Western Azerbaijan Community expresses its readiness for direct negotiations and renews its call for dialogue with the Government of Armenia. They believe that alongside the consideration of the return issue in the Brussels peace process, engaging in direct talks will contribute to fostering a peaceful resolution and establishing constructive relations between the two countries.
