West Indies Selects Squad to Face South Africa

DUBAI: The West Indies have announced their 15-player squad for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, with several regulars opting to skip the matches to wrap up their commitments in the IPL.

Brandon King will lead the team in place of Rovman Powell, who will be rested along with Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran. Meanwhile, Alzarri Joseph and Sherfane Rutherford will stay back for the IPL playoffs, joining the squad only if their teams fail to make the final.

Selector Desmond Haynes sees this series as a crucial opportunity for players to cement their spots for the T20 World Cup opener against Papua New Guinea on June 2. Coach Daren Sammy emphasizes the importance of these matches in fine-tuning the team’s preparations and finding the best combinations ahead of the global tournament.
