MIAMI: Former West Indies cricketer David Murray has died at age of 72, Cricket West Indies said has confirmed.
The late cricketer played as a wicketkeeper and batsman for team West Indies during 1970s and 1980s. He played 19 tests, 10 ODIs and 114 first class cricket matches, Cricket West Indies said. Murray was considered one of the best wicketkeepers in the cricket.
Rebel tour to South Africa
The cricketer was banned from international cricket following he took part in a ” Rebel Trip” in South Africa in 1983 as he played match against South Africa despite the team was banned by the ICC. West Indies Cricket’s Board of Control issued lifetime bans to those who visited South Africa to take part in Rebel Trip. This decision forced him to quit world of cricket. He (Murrary) and his family was deported from Australia after his trip to South Africa.

West Indies Cricket’s Board of Control expressed condolence over his death and said that the late cricketer will be remembered as a key man of West Indies cricket team. David was a wicket-keeper and a stylish middle-order batsman, the President of the Board said.
David was the son of legendary cricketer Sir Everton Weekes. Murray’s son, Ricky Hoyte, also played cricket for Barbados and West Indies’ ‘A’ Team. Cricket fans also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of the great cricketer of West Indies.
