DAKAR: The United Nations (UN) said on Friday that about 35 million people are facing the issue of food insecurity in West and Central Africa. The World body feared that the number of people struggling for food in the region is likely to increase to 48 million in the next year.
UN and hunger in Africa
Reports said that several countries in the region have suffered due to climate change and conflicts. The World Food Programme (WFP) said that the highest hunger levels countries are Burkina Faso, Mali and Nigeria in the region. All three are battling with insurgencies that have displaced millions of people in the West and Central parts of Africa.

Diplomats and humanitarian workers said that people are facing food crisis in Africa and termed it as a complex issue. They said that climate change, conflict, Covid-19 and Ukraine war are the main causes of the food crisis in Africa.
