ISLAMABAD: Drizzling in various parts of the capital territory Islamabad has turned the weather pleasant.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, light rain in the city decreased the temperature further. The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi had been witnessing a dry spell. The drizzle has proved a pleasant expectation for the residents of the twin cities.

The Met Office had indicated the possibility of rain and snowfall in Islamabad, Potohar region, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and North Balochistan. Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rain/snowfall is likely in Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, North Balochistan, and Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The rain is likely to decrease fog intensity in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Upper Sindh.


Cold, cloudy weather in other parts of country
During the last 24 hours, cold and cloudy weather prevailed over other parts of the country. However, rain occurred in North/West Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Central, and South Punjab, and Kashmir. Meanwhile, snowfall was also recorded in Kalam and Malam Jabba. Foggy conditions prevailed over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh in the morning.


According to the met office, the westerly wave affecting the upper parts of the country is likely to persist till Friday afternoon.

The rainfall recorded till Wednesday morning was Balochistan: Quetta (Sheikh Manda 02, Samungli 27 mm), Kalat 12;

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Kalam 06, Parachinar 05, Pattan 07, Dir (Upper 04, Lower 03), Malam Jabba 04, Chitral, Saidu Sharif, Bannu 02, Balakot, Kakul, and Drosh 01.
Kashmir: Garhi Dupatta 01mm.

Heavy snowfall in Mountainous area
The snowfall was recorded in Malam Jabba (02 inches) and Kalam (03 inches).
PMD has warned that the heavy snowfall may disrupt and cause the closure of roads in Galiyat, Murree, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Hunza, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Skardu, Neelum valley, Haveli, Bagh, and Poonch till January 13.

The possibility of landslides in Gilgit Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir cannot be ruled out; the met office said while advising the tourists to remain extra cautious during the spell.
The met office has advised all concerned authorities to remain alert to avoid any untoward situation.
