BRUSSELS: The European Union’s (EU) top diplomat, Josep Borrell, issued a warning on Thursday, stating that a “weaker” Russian President Vladimir Putin would pose a “greater danger” to the international community.

Borrell’s remarks came in the wake of the aborted mutiny by Wagner, a Russian private military contractor, which has sparked the most significant political crisis in decades in the nuclear-armed country.

Speaking to reporters ahead of an EU summit in Brussels, Borrell emphasized the potential risks associated with internal instability within Russia. He stated, “A weaker Putin is a greater danger,” underscoring the need to view Russia as a potential risk due to the ongoing political crisis.

Wagner Mutiny Exposes Issues within Russia

The recent events surrounding the Wagner mutiny have exposed deep-rooted issues within Russia, leading to heightened concerns among international observers. The scale and impact of the crisis have raised questions about the stability of the country and its potential consequences for global security.

The EU has been closely monitoring the situation in Russia, particularly in light of the political turmoil and its implications for regional and international stability. Borrell’s warning highlights the EU’s recognition of the potential dangers associated with a weakened leadership in Russia.
