ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Water Week 2023 began on Thursday with the inauguration of Water Festival and Technology Fair at an impressive ceremony in Islamabad.
Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), organized the event in collaboration with IWMI Pakistan and UNICEF and other partner organizations.
The event aimed to address the critical challenges surrounding water resources and promote innovative solutions in the field of climate and water.
Ahmad Irfan Aslam, caretaker Federal Minister for Water Resources was the chief guest on the occasion. The minister inaugurated the festival, symbolizing the government’s commitment to address the water issues faced by the Pakistani nation.
The Technology Fair featured stalls established by leading research and development organizations in the water sector and universities.
Minister Aslam visited each stall, where representatives from PCRWR, IWMI, UNICEF, Islamic Relief, WWF and other international agencies briefed him about their technologies and ongoing research initiatives to tackling water related challenges.
He also engaged with students participating in the poster competition, where the young participants displayed their innovative ideas and projects related to water conservation and management.
The Minister of Water Resources at the event also launched the recent research reports of PCRWR based on its groundbreaking work.
During his speech, Minister Aslam stressed the importance of water for sustaining life. Citing alarming projections, he voiced concern over reports suggesting that by 2070, the Indus River could run dry.
