RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the United States have asked warring parties in Sudan to hold discussions to extend a short-term ceasefire in the African country, the Saudi Foreign Ministry on Sunday.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States call on the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to continue talks to reach a deal on extending the truce that is set to expire on Monday,” the Kingdom Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Riyadh and Washington, who brokered the present truce, urged the two sides to continue to adhere to their responsibilities even if an extension agreement is not reached before Monday. The warring parties inked a Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan deal in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia safeguarding philanthropic help and access.
Hundreds of people were killed while thousands were injured due to violence in Sudan. Similarly, thousands of people have fled Sudan for safe places since the war began in April in the African country.
