Washington Hosts Uzbekistan-US Business Forum to Boost Bilateral Economic Relations

NEW YORK: Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in New York to participate in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, underlining the nation’s commitment to global cooperation. On the eve of the President Mirziyoyev’s visit, Washington played host to the Uzbekistan-US Business Forum, a significant event attended by top officials, industry leaders, and representatives from both countries.

The Uzbekistan-US Business Forum attracted participation from key ministries, agencies, industry associations, commercial banks, and investment entities, alongside prominent US corporations with interests spanning ICT, mechanical engineering, agriculture, light industry, transportation, banking, and more.

Distinguished speakers at the forum included Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Jamshid Khojayev, Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Carolyn Lamm, Chairman of the Board of the US-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce. Reta Jo Lewis, President, and Chairwoman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States also delivered remarks.

Participants highlighted the impressive pace of growth in trade, economic, and investment ties between the two nations. This growth has been fostered by the strong commitment of leadership, consistent dialogue between governments, and dynamic engagement from the business communities.

Uzbekistan showcased its significant economic achievements, underlining its commitment to free-market principles, entrepreneurship support, infrastructure development, energy accessibility, reduced state intervention, and ambitious privatization initiatives.

Business Connections Between Uzbekistan and US

Currently, over 300 American companies operate in Uzbekistan, a number that has more than doubled since 2017. The forum emphasized the mutually beneficial opportunities for investment in sectors including mining, chemicals, energy, textiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and information technology.

The importance of deepening business connections between Uzbekistan and the United States was emphasized, with a pledge to offer comprehensive government support for joint projects and initiatives. The forum featured sessions on global competition, supply chain sustainability, business environment development, innovation stimulation, strategic forecasting, privatization, and financial and technical collaboration.

The event concluded with government-to-business (G2B) and business-to-business (B2B) meetings, enabling leaders from Uzbek ministries, agencies, industry associations, and top companies to discuss the establishment of joint ventures and mutually beneficial trade agreements.

The business forum resulted in the signing of 12 agreements across various sectors, including energy, mechanical engineering, ICT, agriculture, financial and technical cooperation, as well as the production of medical and pharmaceutical products. These agreements further strengthen the economic bonds between Uzbekistan and the United States, setting the stage for continued collaboration and prosperity.
