ATLANTA: A US state department delegation has convened an important meeting with officials of five central Asian nations on Afghanistan in Astana, Afghan media reported on Thursday.
In a statement via Twitter, US special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West, said that in this meeting, US special representative for human rights in Afghanistan, Rina Amiri, was also present.

He wrote, “Met with colleagues from Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan for the #C5PlusUS session on Afghanistan in Astana to hold the discussion in our joint support of the Afghan people.”

He further Tweeted, during the meeting, they discussed “joint support of the Afghan people,”.

Earlier, the US State Department said: “Special US Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West and Special Envoy for Afghan Women and Human Rights Rina Amiri will visit Astana, and Qatar on July 26-31.”
In Doha, Qatar the West-led team will also meet a delegation of the Afghan interim government from key Afghan ministries to discuss several issues in Afghanistan.
