MEXICO CITY: Biden’s administration does not want to construct new sections of wall on its border with Mexico, the Mexican President said on Friday, showing doubt that the planned building would be carried out, Western media reported. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that it is pure publicity.

The development comes as earlier Biden’s administration said it will add sections to a border wall to avert record refugee crossings from Mexico, carrying forward policy of Donald Trump, Western media reported on Thursday.

Biden to Constrict More Border Wall

The former President Donald Trump is the frontrunner for the Republicans nomination to challenge President Joe Biden in next presidential elections. Donald Trump constructed building border walls a central tenet of his first election campaign for the country’s president with the gathering chant, “Build That Wall.”

Reuters reported that one of President Biden’s first acts following assuming office in 2021 was to issue a decree vowing that “no more US taxpayer dollars be diverted to build a border wall” as well as a review of all resources that had already been dedicated.

However, Biden’s administration said it did not deviate from Biden’s announcement as funds that was allocated during Donald Trump’s government in 2019 had to be spent for the purpose.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated that there was “no new policy with respect to border walls. Donlad Trump, however, was fast to claim win and demand an apology.

In a statement via social media, Trump said, “Will Biden apologize to me and America for taking so long to get moving”.

However, Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador termed the move “a step backwards.”
