WASHINGTON: The United States (US) on Thursday announced a fresh $600 million security aid package for Kyiv that includes mine-clearing equipment, artillery ammunition and demolition munitions.
AFP reported that the help would not immediately arrive on the battleground, as it falls under USAI, under which the US procures equipment from the defence industry rather than drawing from United States stocks.
Washington Announces $600 Million in New Security Help for Kyiv
In a statement, the Pentagon said the new security package will “support Kyiv’s battleground needs” and shows “firm Washington support for Kyiv.
The new announcement comes a day after the US vowed over $1 billion in military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine, including 120mm depleted uranium shells for Abrams tanks that are likely to be delivered by the end of the current year.
AFP reported that depleted uranium munitions are disputed because of their association with health issues such as birth defects and cancer in areas where they were used during the earlier conflicts.

Moscow has sharply denounced Washington’s decision to supply the depleted uranium munitions, but Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh defended the decision on Thursday.
She told journalists that they felt that these would be the most effective rounds to counter the tanks of Russia, adding it would also help the people of Ukraine to defend” their country.
The US has pledged Ukraine more than $43 billion in military help since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in last February.
