MOSCOW: Yevgeny Prigozhin, the chief of Russian mercenary group Wagner, made a startling accusation on Friday, claiming that Moscow’s military leadership had ordered missile strikes on their camps, resulting in a significant loss of forces.
In a furious audio message released by his spokespeople, Prigozhin expressed his anger towards the Defense Ministry and vowed to take action.
Prigozhin stated that Wagner was prepared to make concessions to the Defense Ministry and surrender their weapons. However, when they realized that they had not been broken, missile strikes were carried out on their rear camps. The chief of Wagner denounced the actions of Moscow’s military leadership, labeling it as “evil” and declared his intention to “stop” them.
“The council of commanders of PMC Wagner has made a decision—the evil that the military leadership of the country brings must be stopped,” Prigozhin declared in the audio message, while urging Russians to remain calm and not to resist his forces.
Russian Defense Ministry Refutes Wagner Chief’s Statement
In response, the Russian Defense Ministry refuted Prigozhin’s statements, dismissing them as a “provocation” and asserting that they do not correspond to reality. The ministry reaffirmed that the Russian Armed Forces continue to carry out combat missions in Ukraine.
The accusations made by the Wagner chief have raised concerns and drawn attention to the complexities surrounding the situation in Ukraine. The Russian military’s denial of Prigozhin’s claims adds further uncertainty to the already tense environment.
