CAIRO: The national electoral commission of Egypt has declared that voting for the Egyptian citizens living abroad to elect the president have come to an end.
According to the commission the first phase of voting that continued for three days ended at the premises of Egyptian embassies in different countries and the ballots were counted, verified and transferred to the electoral commission through the Foreign Ministry.
It said the counted votes of the oversees Egyptians would be added to the ballots of the citizens who would elect a new president next week.
Voting to be held on Dec 10-14 in Egypt
The voting was conducted at 137 centers in 121 countries outside Egypt. The voting in Egypt is scheduled to be held on December 10-14.
Incumbent president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, leader of the Democratic Party Farid Zahran, chief of Al-Wafd Party Abdel Sanad Yamama and head of the Republic People’s Party Hazem Omar are contesting the election.
Around 14 million Egyptian expatriates exercised their right to vote in the 2024 presidential elections from Friday, December 1 to Sunday, December 3, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the country’s embassies and consulates across the world.

It is pertinent to mention that Egyptian citizens living in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have recorded the highest voting rates, followed by the UAE and Qatar.
Egyptian voters abroad were allowed to vote by showing their proof of nationalities. Citizens aged 18 or above are eligible to cast their vote. Eligible voters inside and outside Egypt surpassed 65 million.
