Vikram Misri Appointed Next Foreign Secretary of India

NEW DELHI: Deputy National Security Adviser (NSA) Vikram Misri on Friday was named as the next Foreign Secretary of India, according to an official order.

It said Misri, a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed to the post from July 15. He will succeed Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

The Personnel Ministry, Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, and National Security Council Secretariat have approved the appointment of Vikram Misri. Earlier, in March Vinay Mohan Kwatra was given a six months extension.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the new appointment of Misri, Deputy NSA in the National Security Council Secretariat. His appointment to the post of Foreign Secretary will come into effect from July 15, said the order.
