Veteran Journalist Imran Aslam Passes Away

KARACHI: Veteran journalist, screenwriter and media personality Imran Aslam passed away at a private hospital in Karachi on Friday. He was 70.

Personality and journalistic careers of Imran Aslam

The late journalist Imran Aslam, who was born in Madras in India in 1952, started his journalistic career as the editor of the English language newspaper The Star in the 1980s. 

Imran Aslam graduated from Government College University, Lahore, Pakistan. He also studied at the London School of Economics.

 The late journalist also helped launch The News. His tenure at The News saw him serve the paper as Chief News Editor, Coordinating Editor, Editor and Senior Editor.

He was also instrumental in launching Geo TV and later, he was promoted as Group President of Jang Group and Geo TV, Network, a position he held since 2002. 

 Imran Aslam was involved in virtually every strategic and content-related facet of the channel.

 During his tenure as president, Geo Network launched Geo News, Geo Entertainment, Geo Super, AAG, Geo Kahani and Geo Tez.

Before he turned to journalism, he worked for Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of the UAE. 

He is married to cricket journalist Farishteh Aslam.

Imarn Aslam also write several plays including Khaleej, Dastak, Bisaat and Rozy.
