During the call, Dar congratulated Plasencia on his appointment as Venezuela’s Minister of Foreign Relations and Foreign Trade and conveyed Pakistan’s heartfelt condolences over the recent devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Venezuelan government and its people, expressing confidence in the country’s resilience and recovery from the disaster.
Plasencia thanked Pakistan for its message of sympathy and humanitarian support for those affected by the earthquakes, describing such gestures as a reflection of the importance of international solidarity during times of crisis.
The Venezuelan foreign minister also acknowledged what he described as Pakistan’s constructive role in encouraging dialogue and reducing tensions during the recent US-Iran conflict, while commending Islamabad’s continued commitment to peace and diplomacy.
The two ministers reviewed the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and Venezuela and reaffirmed their shared resolve to deepen bilateral ties across multiple sectors.
They discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in trade, investment, business, agriculture, information technology and other areas of mutual interest, highlighting the significant potential for stronger economic engagement and enhanced people-to-people exchanges.
Dar stressed the importance of maintaining regular high-level contacts to inject fresh momentum into bilateral relations and broaden cooperation in diverse fields.
Both sides also expressed satisfaction over the close coordination between Pakistan and Venezuela at multilateral forums on issues of shared interest.
The conversation concluded with an agreement to remain in close contact and to hold an in-person meeting at the earliest suitable opportunity.
The 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude quakes last month killed about 5,000 people in Venezuela, according to the government, though experts including the United States Geological Survey, have predicted a likelihood of a final death toll of nearly double that figure.
The disaster was especially devastating in La Guaira state, home to the country’s main airport, a major port and hundreds of high-rise residential buildings that collapsed either fully or partially.
