ISLAMABAD: Public sector college teachers have protested against the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) as they are still voicing their demands.
Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has reportedly abolished two-year associate Degree (AD) and four-year Bachelor programmes in many government colleges of the Federal capital Islamabad. Protest against this decision was led by Federal Government College Teachers Association (FGCTA).
Parents who couldn’t send their children to universities with heavy fees opted to go to government colleges for higher education for degree programmes but abolishing these programmes from government colleges in the federal capital has left the parents with no choice but to send their children to universities.
On the other hand, the Federal Directorate of Education’s schedule for Bachelor and associate degree programmes is proving fruitless as teachers are forced to teach their students even during vacations of summer.
In another development, the Private Educational Institutions Regularity Authority (PEIRA) served show-cause notices to the administration of six schools and colleges for closing their educational institutions on November 8 without prior approval of the authorities.
The notice said the situation in Islamabad was normal, and roads were clear, but schools and colleges were closed on November 8, 2022, without considering ground realities. It said that the abrupt closure of the institutions was unjustified and might affect the teaching-learning process besides the academic loss of students.
Schools and college management were instructed to avoid any closure of educational institutions without the advice of concerned authorities to ensure the continuation of the teaching-learning process.
