ISLAMABAD: At least nine people were killed and 17 others injured when a passenger van fell into the Indus River in the Battagram district of Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
Reportedly, the deceased also includes women and children.
Van traveling from Thakot to Jambera
At least 25 passengers were aboard the ill-fated van, traveling from Thakot to Jambera area of the district, when the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The district administration said the death toll was expected to rise as passengers were still missing.
Immediately after the incident, an emergency was declared at the DHQ Hospital Battagram and RHC Thakot.
Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner also reached the site of the accident to supervise the rescue and relief operation.
