TASHKENT: President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed creation of the Turkic Environmental Council in Nukus. He expressed these remarks during an informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Shusha.
Local media reported that it would be correct to say that their organization covers the region that has suffered the most damage due to climate change. He hoped that they will support their initiative to set up a Turkic Environmental Council at the ministerial level to systematically address the current problems.
He said, “It would be appropriate to locate the headquarters of this structure in Nukus.” He added that the voice of the Turkic world is becoming increasingly louder in the area of global climate cooperation.
He said, “The next 29th UN Climate Action Summit (COP-29), which will be held in November this year in Baku, Azerbaijan will be a major historical event for all our nations. I sincerely wish the summit of world leaders on climate change to be successful.”
He stressed that Uzbekistan is ready to take an active part in this summit and provide Azerbaijan with comprehensive help.
