ISLAMABAD: April 18, 2023: Uzbek Ambassador to Pakistan, Aybek Arif Usmanov, called on Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar on Tuesday where the Uzbek dignitary showed keen interest in investing in E-Commerce, trade and industry in Pakistan
In the meeting, Syed Naveed Qamar acknowledged the enormous potential for trade between the two sides and said there was a need to identify new venues for cooperation.
Qamar assured the Ambassador of his full cooperation and support to explore new sectors for mutual investments to meet the actual potential of the trade and appreciated his efforts to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries.
Scope of Business in Trade, Industry and E-commerce
Ambassador Aybek Arif expressed his interest in trade, industry, and e-commerce sectors and underscored the need to take more practical measures to meet the 1 billion action plan between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
He said trade relations between the two sides had shown a positive trend, and trade data for FY 2021-22 showed growth of nearly USD 91 million (with exports amounting to USD 57 million). In comparison, Pakistan’s exports to Uzbekistan doubled from US $ 36.56 million in July-March FY 2021-22 to US $ 73.12 million during July-March FY 2022-23.
The Ambassador also agreed with the minister that if we could remove unwanted barriers, trade volume could touch 5 billion very easily.
The two sides resolved to continue working closely to identify opportunities for cooperation in Investment, trade and other sectors.
The meeting ended positively, with both sides expressing their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
